Eligibility criteria

  • The Saudi driving licence must be valid for at least 6 months.
  • Issuance is limited to citizens and residents of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia only.
  • Applicants must have no outstanding traffic violations.
  • The IDP is valid for one year from the date of issue.

Required documents

  • Personal photo (preferably 3.5 × 4.5 cm)
  • Passport copy (information page)
  • Saudi driving licence copy (clear photo)

Frequently asked questions

  • No. The permit does not replace your Saudi driving licence. Carry both documents when driving abroad and follow your destination country’s rules.

  • No. The IDP is valid for one year from the date of issue and cannot be issued for a longer period.

  • A replacement with the same serial number is not available. You may apply for a new document, subject to applicable fees.

  • Acceptance rules vary by destination and rental company. Check the requirements before travelling. You may also drive your own vehicle or a first-degree relative’s vehicle while abroad, subject to local rules.

  • No. The IDP does not provide insurance. You may purchase suitable cover separately from insurers or automobile clubs.

  • Renewal is not available. If your Saudi licence is still valid, you may apply for a new IDP online; international shipping may be available for an additional fee.
